This all started with me playing around some more with Bryce metaballs. Then I found the texture that reminded me of wet sand and then the metaballs became creatures lying on the sand. From there, it was just hours and hours of tinkering to get things to where I liked 'em.
I'm still not sure if I entirely like everything, but I'm going to take a little rest on this one and come back to it later to decide if it's finished or if it needs more work.
