Working title: Jumper 2

12 x 12 ", Acrylic on Canvas

8 February 2008

After finishing Yellow Jumper, I moved right along to another similar painting, this time on a proper canvas.

Jumper 2 version 1

I didn't paint the bottom stripe yet (or the bottom "side" of the canvas). I'm happy with the color of the middle stripe of the background, but not the brushwork on it (particularly on the left). The red disc may get a more painterly treatment, may not.

My original plan was to make green the dominant color on the figure. I painted yellow as underpainting for the green, but I like the way the yellow looks, so I might leave it that way...decisions, decisions.

Luckily, there'll be plenty of time to make that decision later.

On the 12th, I had blocked in the bottom background in grey. On the 13th, I redid the top background, and repaired the figure's legs with white. This photo has more contrast (and thus more color definition) than the previous one...I didn't repaint the middle background and figure to make them more colorful.

This time I repainted the middle background, so the brushstrokes are all concentric. I made the figure entirely yellow (that'll probably change) and did some touch-up around it where it meets the upper background. I also filled in the bottom background.

My apologies for the glare in this photo; I'm just taking snapshots rather than hauling out my tripod and proper lighting.

From here, there doesn't seem to be too much left to do on the painting. I think I'm going to change at least parts of the figure to green. I may also add an element or two; I'm going to let it sit for a while and see if anything to add pops into my head.
