Working title: Untitled (Cradled Panel 4)

6x6", Acrylic on Wood

This panel I just started. I laid on a thin glaze of Red Oxide, diagonally. Then I scraped through it with a pallette knife. I have no idea how this one will proceed, but I'm already liking the combination of textures (from the panel, the gessoing, the glaze, and the scraping) that I've got going.

Ah, a better photo to show the color. The one above was a tad on the dull side. The color here still isn't great, but it's a lot better.

This was fun...it's my first attempt at "mixed media". I stuck a couple of pieces of cheap craft paper on the panel, using gloss acrylic medium as the glue. Then a couple of swatches of a magenta glaze, over some of the paper. Then a few well-placed opaque brushstrokes, with the brush loaded with two colors (white and blue). As that was drying, I scraped back over it with a palette knife, giving it a roughed-up look. Then I poured a thin puddle of medium in the lower right, and as it dried I dabbed out the middle. I'm not sure I like the resulting form, but that'll be something to work with or work on as this panel proceeds.

The green dabs made their way on as I was moving panels around on a table. I liked them, so I left them there. They seem to fit the color scheme well.

I'm still unsure which way will be up in this painting. Is that a claw? A human form in dried medium? Why paper here and there? There must be a reason.

I've done another mini-session on this painting. I stuck a bit more craft paper on it, and added more green smears. I still don't know which way it's going or which way is going to be up.
