At the gardens

If you read my previous entry, then you know that on the 17th of April I went on a trip to Vancouver Island with my family, who were visiting from Virginia. And you also know that the main goal of that trip was to see Buchart Gardens.

This entry consists of the photos that I got while we were at the gardens. The weather was mixed while we were there; someimtes it was cold, grey, and raining, and sometimes the sun came out. You'll be able to see that in the photos.

There's oftentimes little for me to say about floral photos, as I'm not really good at flower identification and even if I were, there aren't many good tales of how flowers are behaving. So rather than bore you with endless details of my photographic setup (the only thing that I could talk about), I'll get out of the way for the most part and let you enjoy the flowers, and the landscapes. I'll interrupt a few times to set the context for some of the people shots.

So enjoy the flowers.

Buchart Gardens has a clever way of keeping small children engaged as they go around with their parents. They had placed ten little bunny statues around the grounds, and would give kids a small gift if they found them all. This was a big hit with Chloe and Sydney. Here, as I was taking photos of Chloe in front of some totem poles, she looked around and discovered one of the bunnies.
Naturally, this had to be communicated immediately to everyone within earshot.

We came out of the Japanese garden at about the same time as a shower stopped. The gardens were also very organized about the rain: they had loads of clear umbrellas located at strategic areas, and people were welcome to use them. Here Sydney and Chloe have umbrellas, while their grandpa Fuzzz is sporting a large towel. That's their mom on the far left.
Sydney came over to where I had set up my tripod and gave a big snaggle-toothed smile.

Although we were too early in the season for roses and many other flowers, there was still quite a variety for me to focus on. I hope you liked this extended trip through the gardens as much as I did.

Stopping to smell whatever I stumble upon,
Tom
