Front Street bridges

The 27th of December was a Monday and around 11:30 I headed out to do a little post-Christmas Shopping. It was pretty foggy as I left home, and driving along Columbia I noticed an Amtrak passenger train trundling along the track beside and below me. I zipped along to the Braid Street crossing, where I parked, grabbed my camera, and got a few photos. Here's a nice, moody one.

After the train had passed, I got back in the car and went to lunch and shopping. Around four o'clock I was headed back home, and the fog was still hanging around. I went down Front Street, which goes along the Fraser River near my place. I was struck by the way the bridges looked in the fog, so I pulled over. Luckily, there is this odd little cutout where there is room to park about two cars on Front Street almost under the Patullo Bridge. There are is no other parking anywhere nearby, and Front Street is too busy to congest by parking in a traffic lane (which I've been known to do on lonely country roads). Anyhow, with my car safely stowed, I crossed the road to get some foggy bridge photos. Here's the Patullo Bridge, which carries automotive traffic. This is the bridge that I take when I go to work at my Surrey office.

I walked a short distance along the water to get this shot, which shows both the Patullo and the CN/BNSF rail bridge. The rail bridge has a swinging middle section.
From the same location, all three of the bridges. The rightmost one is the cable-stayed Skytrain bridge, which carries the Skytrain (mass transit) line.
Here's a shot showing just the Skytrain bridge. It's quite elegant with its tall towers and thin ribbon of a deck.
Sunset was nearing, but not quite arrived yet. By reducing the exposure time on the camera, though, I was able to get photos that approximated sunset.
In the next photo, looking back the other way, you can see that it's still pretty much day. As I was shooting, I became fascinated with the deep blue color of the water and the colored reflections in it. I took a bunch of photos to try to capture those colors. This one does it pretty well.
A train came down the rail line behind me, and headed out across the bridge to Surrey.

And here's a final shot of the Patullo and rail bridges, again with emphasis on the reflections. By this point (about half an hour after I had left my car) the fog was thinning out.

But the fog was part of what had attracted me to the scene, so with this I packed it in and headed home.

Not feeling very fowl at all,
Tom
